AD Energy Recruitment is partnering with a leading provider of sustainable energy and resource recovery solutions to appoint a North America Sales Manager with proven experience selling into municipal wastewater treatment utilities and public-sector infrastructure owners.
Our client delivers advanced technologies and project development solutions that support municipal wastewater treatment facilities in converting organic waste streams into renewable energy and valuable resources. Their solutions help cities and utilities reduce emissions, divert waste from landfill, and meet increasingly stringent sustainability and regulatory targets.
With a strong footprint across North America and internationally, the organisation is entering a new phase of growth and is seeking a senior sales leader to drive regional performance and build long-term relationships across the municipal wastewater market.
The Sales Manager will lead regional sales activities across the municipal wastewater treatment sector, with responsibility for delivering bookings, managing key accounts, and advancing complex public-sector opportunities.
This is a senior, hands-on role combining sales leadership, deal execution, and close collaboration with engineering, legal, and project delivery teams to secure and deliver successful municipal infrastructure projects.
• Partner with the Managing Director – North America to define and deliver regional sales objectives focused on municipal wastewater utilities
• Deliver annual sales and bookings targets
• Drive capital equipment and Build-Own-Operate (BOO) sales opportunities within the municipal wastewater sector
• Manage the full sales lifecycle from early engagement through procurement, approval, and contract execution
• Lead, coach, and support the regional sales team
• Identify and pursue sales opportunities across municipal wastewater treatment plants, sludge processing, anaerobic digestion, and RNG integration
• Lead development of BOO and capital sales opportunities, including:
• Permitting and regulatory strategy alignment
• Feedstock and sludge agreements
• Offtake agreements
• Land-use and site access agreements
• Interface directly with municipal stakeholders including:
• Utility and public works leadership
• City managers and municipal authorities
• Boards, consultants, and engineering partners
• Navigate public-sector procurement processes, RFQs, RFPs, and municipal approval pathways
• Develop winning proposal strategies aligned with municipal governance and funding structures
• Coordinate closely with applications engineering and technical teams to define compliant, competitive solutions
• Lead negotiations, proposal development, and contract execution
• Support financing and project structuring alongside internal commercial and financial teams
• Improve sales processes, forecasting accuracy, and CRM discipline
• Monitor trends within the municipal wastewater and public infrastructure market
• Track competitor activity and emerging treatment technologies
• Support targeted lead-generation initiatives focused on utilities and municipalities
• Represent the company at industry conferences and municipal events
• Contribute to market analysis and regional growth planning
• Manage performance of the regional sales team
• Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback
• Support professional development and succession planning
• Collaborate closely with engineering, legal, finance, and project execution teams to ensure smooth handover from sales to delivery
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required (Engineering or STEM discipline strongly preferred)
• Master’s degree or MBA preferred
• 5+ years’ experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or commercial roles
• Demonstrated success selling system-based solutions into municipal wastewater treatment utilities
Technical & Commercial Competencies
Strong understanding of:
• Municipal wastewater treatment processes
• Sludge handling and processing
• Anaerobic digestion and biogas systems
• Strong knowledge of municipal procurement and contracting frameworks
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to engage confidently with utility leadership, consultants, and engineers
• Strong proposal writing and commercial structuring capability
• Proficiency with MS Office and CRM systems
