AD Energy Recruitment is looking for an RNG Operations Manager for a key client based in River Falls, Wisconsin.
The salary for this on-site role is between $130,000 and $145,000.
The RNG Operations Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management, optimization, and compliance of a dairy manure–based anaerobic digestion and biogas upgrading facility producing renewable natural gas (RNG).
This role requires technical expertise in anaerobic digestion, gas processing, and utility interconnections, as well as leadership skills to oversee plant operations, maintenance teams, and contractors.
The ideal candidate will combine strong process knowledge with hands-on operational leadership to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective RNG production that meets environmental and regulatory standards.
Operations Management
• Oversee daily operations of anaerobic digestion, biogas upgrading, and RNG pipeline injection systems.
• Monitor facility performance metrics (digester health, gas quality, uptime, output).
• Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and optimize processes to maximize efficiency and yield.
Maintenance & Reliability
• Lead preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment (pumps, blowers, separators, membranes, compressors, flare systems).
• Develop and maintain a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Coordinate with OEMs and contractors for specialized repairs.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Maintain air and water permits, RNG pipeline quality standards, and waste handling requirements.
• Champion a strong safety culture with ongoing training and hazard assessments.
Team Leadership
• Manage plant operators, technicians, and support staff.
• Provide training and mentorship to build operational expertise within the team.
• Coordinate shift coverage and on-call response as needed.
Financial & Reporting
• Develop and manage operating budgets and cost control measures.
• Report production volumes, downtime, and compliance metrics to senior management.
• Support project expansions, upgrades, and optimization initiatives.
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Agricultural) or related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent technical and operational experience considered.
• 5+ years of experience in operations management, preferably in biogas, wastewater treatment, RNG, or industrial process facilities.
• Demonstrated knowledge of anaerobic digestion, gas upgrading technologies (membrane, PSA, water scrubbing), and RNG pipeline interconnection standards.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong mechanical and process troubleshooting ability.
• Knowledge of environmental and energy regulations in Wisconsin (PSC, DNR, EPA).
• Effective leadership and people management skills.
• Proficiency with SCADA/PLC systems, CMMS tools, and data reporting platforms.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Other Requirements
• Willingness to work in an agricultural/manure-handling environment.
• Ability to respond to emergencies outside of normal business hours.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally if required.
