At AD Energy, we specialise exclusively in Renewable Natural Gas and Biogas recruitment, partnering with the businesses shaping the future of low-carbon fuel infrastructure.
We are supporting a leading RNG platform in the search for a Director of Carbon Strategy and Monetization to take ownership of a critical function sitting at the intersection of credit generation, compliance, offtake support, carbon markets, and emerging policy.
This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who understands how to turn plant data, regulatory frameworks, and market mechanisms into a functioning revenue engine.
You will lead the downstream management of environmental credit generation across an established RNG portfolio, while also helping shape strategy around evolving programs and new market opportunities.
Location: Remote, USA
Salary: $200,000 – $230,000 + bonus + benefits
This is not a generic sustainability role.
It is a specialist leadership position for someone who understands the operational and commercial importance of programs such as LCFS, RFS, fuel pathways, credit generation, validation, verification, and regulatory compliance.
You will step into a business with a substantial operational footprint, an established data and pathways function, and a clear need for a senior leader who can take ownership of the day-to-day offtake and credit generation activities, while also contributing to policy interpretation, market expansion, and program optimisation.
The successful individual will work closely with senior leadership, cross-functional teams, and commercial stakeholders to ensure existing revenue streams run smoothly while supporting the business in assessing and operationalising future market opportunities.
• Lead the management of environmental credit generation activities across an operational RNG portfolio
• Oversee downstream credit and offtake-related activities, ensuring reporting, transactions, and compliance are handled accurately and efficiently
• Support and guide team members responsible for credit generation and related program delivery
• Work closely with internal data and pathways teams to ensure operational data is translated into compliant, monetizable environmental credits
• Manage and optimise participation in programs such as LCFS and RFS
• Support strategy around emerging markets and new environmental programs, including evaluation, readiness, and implementation
• Monitor policy developments and translate regulatory changes into practical business actions
• Contribute to policy analysis, comment letters, internal briefing materials, executive presentations, and market strategy recommendations
• Partner with commercial leadership on offtake-related initiatives and broader market diversification efforts
• Help build internal structure, process, and discipline around how new market opportunities are assessed and operationalised
• Serve as a senior point of accountability for a function that is central to revenue generation, compliance, and future growth
In this role, success will look like:
• Taking ownership of day-to-day credit generation and offtake management so the function runs smoothly without constant senior oversight
• Creating confidence internally that the revenue engine is under control, compliant, and scalable
• Demonstrating strong understanding of both existing and emerging market mechanisms
• Helping the business navigate new policy and program opportunities with clarity and structure
• Bringing enough technical depth, commercial awareness, and leadership capability to move between operational detail and strategic decision-making
We are looking for a rare profile in the RNG market.
This role requires someone who combines technical credibility, policy awareness, compliance understanding, and commercial pragmatism.
Strong candidates are likely to come from backgrounds such as:
• RNG developers / owners / operators
• Environmental markets / carbon programs leadership
• Low carbon fuels compliance teams
• Regulatory / pathway / credit generation functions
• Specialist consultancies supporting LCFS, RFS, CI modelling, or fuel pathway work
• Engineering or analytical leaders who have moved into carbon, compliance, or commercial program ownership
Ideal Experience
• Strong experience in LCFS, RFS, environmental credits, carbon programs, or low carbon fuel compliance
• Experience managing credit generation, pathway administration, reporting, and/or program participation
• Understanding of how RNG projects monetise environmental attributes
• Familiarity with validation, verification, audit readiness, and regulatory reporting workflows
• Ability to interpret policy and apply it commercially and operationally
• Experience assessing or supporting entry into new low-carbon fuel markets or adjacent environmental programs
• Strong leadership capability, with experience managing people, priorities, and cross-functional collaboration
• Confidence operating in a fast-moving, evolving market where structure, ownership, and initiative matter
The right person for this role will not just be a technical box-checker.
They will be:
• Structured and methodical
• Commercially aware
• Comfortable owning detail
• Able to communicate clearly with both technical and executive stakeholders
• Naturally proactive
• Intellectually curious about policy, markets, and regulation
• Humble, hands-on, and willing to get into the weeds when needed
This is a role for someone who can combine intelligence, attitude, and adaptability in a market that continues to evolve.
Senior opportunities of this nature are rare in RNG right now.
This is a chance to step into a visible leadership position with real scope to influence:
• Credit generation performance
• Compliance execution
• Market strategy
• Emerging program participation
• The future direction of a growing environmental revenue function
For the right person, this is an opportunity to take on a role that blends operations, carbon markets, policy, and commercial impact in one of the most specialised areas of the energy transition.
