Offering deep subject matter expertise and an engineering-led approach to designing, installing, testing, and maintaining medium and high-voltage electrical infrastructure, this key client is now seeking a professional, dedicated individual with a positive outlook for their Structural Engineer opening in their Clear Lake office.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop complex structural engineering plans, details, and calculations for renewable energy and substation projects.
• Design concrete foundations and steel structures, including standard shapes and tapered tubular sections, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations across various environmental and geotechnical parameters.
• Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of NESC transmission loads and loading combinations.
• Apply advanced understanding of substation general arrangements and physical components.
• Independently utilize extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Oversee multiple projects within a portfolio, ensuring quality and conformity to standards.
• Serve as the main point of contact for project teams on assigned portfolios.
• Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard procedures and criteria.
• Develop work plans for project tasks and manage discipline team members.
• Act as the Engineer of Record for substation projects.
• Provide cross-functional support to the PV/BESS team on utility-scale solar and storage projects as needed.
• Delegate tasks to and direct less experienced team members to complete assignments.
• Assist in preparing proposals to provide professional services.
• Mentor staff engineers, providing guidance on complex or unconventional problems and new approaches.
• Attend project meetings, presenting engineering aspects with proficiency and confidence.
• Meet deliverables and deadlines while performing essential duties.
• Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes.
• Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or Engineering Technology of equivalent degree path
• Professional Engineering Licensure highly preferred; SE licensure preferred.
• 4+ years of experience in substation structural engineering design.
• Proficiency in software tools such as RISA 2D/3D/Foundation, Enercalc, L-PILE, or similar.
• Strong familiarity with relevant codes and standards including ASCE 113, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360/341, IBC, and NDS.
• Ability to interpret site studies, geotechnical reports, and civil, structural, and architectural drawings.
• In-depth knowledge of steel structures, drilled piers, and shallow foundations.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to be both creative and analytical.
• Detail-oriented and accurate.
• Efficient time management skills, capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and plan effectively to meet all deadlines.
