Job Description

 

SUMMARY

The Sr. Structural Engineer will be responsible for the planning, analysis, design and construction administration services of complex structural systems for a wide variety of public and private development projects such as structural investigations and evaluations, integrity assessments, crane railway surveys and inspections, design of foundations, structural steel, reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete, masonry, wood structures, special structures and bridges and culverts. Act as a senior, advanced engineer responsible for technical development in the Structural Department. May lead one large project or a number of small projects, usually coordinating the work of less experienced engineers, technical assistants, and drafters. Works closely with the directors, managers, and engineering staff to ensure our client’s needs and expectations are exceeded.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares complex calculations, designs, specifications and/or reports for checking and reviewing by others.
Checks complex calculations, designs, specifications and/or reports prepared by others.
Assumes complete responsibility for structural engineering for complex projects.
Directs technicians and/or drafters and other engineers assigned to the department.
Coordinates work of his/her discipline with other disciplines.
Makes recommendation and/or decisions on unusual or complicated issues.
Will be asked to estimate work effort and write scopes of work in support of proposals.
Will be required to author engineering reports.
Coordinates all aspects of project document completion within the company and externally with clients and other design professionals.
Directs and assists co-workers with performing field measurements.
May assess the requirements of a project, break a project down into tasks, and work with a project manager to determine scope, budget and staffing for a project.
Serves as Project Engineer on complex, single-discipline projects and complex multi-discipline projects.
Reviews work of the project design team. Checks the progress of work and alerts the Project Manager to needed changes to the scope or other services.
Works with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to the building code is required.
Directs construction observation of others on complex projects.
Assists in the education and development of design staff and acts as a resource for design questions.
Maintains neat and organized work area to allow efficient access to project information required by other team members.
Assists with whatever duties are required to deliver a quality project on schedule and within budget.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Ohio PE License (Preferred).
Valid Drivers’ License required.
Structural analysis software experience.
Must have knowledge of applicable building codes.
Keeps current on the “state of the art” in their design specialty through a review of periodicals and continuing education.
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Revit preferred.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position operates in a professional office environment at REW offices in Westlake, Ohio.

This is typically a full-time position, which is defined as being scheduled an average of 40 hours per week.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, and moderately loud when in the field.
