Job Description

 

Located in Houston, TX we are a nationally recognized full service, EPC, specialty engineering, procurement, construction and testing and commissioning company specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure in North America.

This position will be responsible to work on a wide variety of construction projects involving transmission, distribution, and substation electrical construction.

This position is responsible for collecting and analyzing data to estimate the labor, equipment, materials, subcontract for EPC or GC estimates.

The primary goal of the position is to track, bid, and secure profitable work for the company while maintaining an acceptable ratio of awarded projects.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Identify and quantify cost factors such as production time, materials, and labor expenses

Travel to jobsites to gather information on materials needed, labor required, and other factors

Read blueprints and technical documents to prepare estimates

Collaborate with engineers, project managers, procurement teams, and sub-contractors to develop constructability plans and estimates

Consult with industry experts and management to discuss estimates and resolve issues

Use computer software to calculate estimates, primarily excel and Bluebeam.

Evaluate a product’s cost-effectiveness or profitability

Recommend ways to make services and products more cost effective or profitable

Work with other teams to prepare estimates and bids for clients

Develop project plans for the duration of the project

Ensure compliance with contract requirements

Prepare takeoffs and work with project team to solicit and secure competitive sub-contractor proposals and pricing

Review budgets versus actual performance with project teams and take corrective action as necessary

Assist in writing work scopes and reviewing contract change order and field change order proposals

Assist in reviewing, estimating, and negotiating multiple project change orders

Ensure all required paperwork is submitted promptly and in accordance with company policies.

Experience & Education Required:

Prior experience working within the utilities or construction environment highly preferred

Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Electrical Engineering and/or Construction Management with 5 years’ experience in the medium and high voltage electrical substation and transmission construction industry or any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.

Ability to read, interpret, and analyze electric construction drawings and specifications

Extensive knowledge of industry practices, procedures, and market trends

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel & Word)

Solid written and verbal communication skills

Strong critical thinking skills

Strong organizational skills

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in parallel

Preferred Skills:

Previous medium and high voltage electrical construction experience

Knowledge, experience and ability to estimate EPC (Engineer, Procure, Construct) type projects.

Knowledge, experience, and ability to estimate related types of work such as electrical and civil substation construction and distribution and transmission line construction, etc.
