My client is the premier anaerobic digester developer/owner/operator in the United States. Their closed-loop anaerobic digestion process converts organic waste and cow manure into green electricity or renewable natural gas as well as other related “value-added” products.
Funded by institutional capital partners, and currently have 20+ projects operating and in development in over 13 states. They have a plan to aggressively expand into other domestic markets. The Commissioning Manager is responsible for managing safe, optimal, and environmentally sound commissioning activities of our projects. These team members may be required to oversee multiple projects across a state.
Responsibilities:
• Lead successful execution of the commissioning plan, plant startup strategy, performance acceptance tests, and handover from construction team to operations team
• Maintain site safety during project commissioning
• Continually monitor site activities for compliance with contracts, documentation, and quality standards
• Oversee and report on project commissioning milestone progress & deliverables
• Build positive relationships with site operations team and contractors.
• Lead the training of operational staff while performing startup of the facility to ensure operational readiness and smooth system handover
• Understand, review, and manage project plans, specifications, and manufacturer’s data and execute projects based upon that documentation.
• Provide integration support between key contracting scopes.
• Ensure execution of the contractors’ commissioning, start-up and performance testing plan to ensure quality delivery of the contractual commitments.
• Create and update standard operating procedures developed from hands on installation and start-up of new equipment
• Work closely with engineering and operations staff to fully understand each process and commission systems for controllability, reliability, and safety during sustained operations
• Work with the project management team on cost control, cost forecasting, invoicing and financial management during commissioning.
• Document and participate in plant design revisions and continuous improvement cycle for future projects
• Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
• 5 years of construction, commissioning, and/or operations experience
• Knowledge of relevant health and safety laws and best practices
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
• Experience in schedule execution, contract compliance, and change management.
• Advanced analytical skills to address problems, identify root causes, and generate real time solutions
• Excellent time management, communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to travel up to 70% of the time
Preferred Qualifications:
• Basic ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects at once
• Understanding of procurement process & management
• Basic understanding of contract language
• Basic understanding of development & execution of change management process
• Globally aware of how what we do fits into the bigger picture
• Experience in construction means & methods
• Experience in project financial setup, tracking, reporting & management
• Drawing & specification reading
• Understanding of biogas plant equipment, including safe operating practices
• Flexible work hours while in the field, which can be extensive.
• Ability to multitask
• Ability to network effectively across the organization to access relevant data and knowledge
• Highly motivated and able to work as part of a diverse team without supervision
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams, both internal and external contractors to deliver results
• Familiarity with construction, automation, operations work types and crafts
